Sheila Ojeaburu, E-2017
Sheila is a first-year medical student at UWSOM. She views medicine as a lens to better articulate the human experience. She graduated from Harvard in 2015 where she studied Neurobiology and African and African American Studies. She was born abroad and worked in both NYC and Kenya before beginning medical school. She is passionate about stories, and revels in all opportunities to engage with a range of topics--from politics, to philosophy and fashion. She loves 90s TV, enabling her sweets obsession, and spending time with friends and family. |
Sophie Padelford, E-2017
Sophie is a first-year medical student at the UWSOM. She graduated in 2015 from Amherst college with a dual degree in Classics and Biology. She is passionate about bringing these two realms into closer conversation and making medicine less alien to ordinary people. Outside of school, Sophie enjoys running, exploring the outdoor treasures of the PNW, and spoiling her cat. |
Adrian Lazarevic-Fogelquist, E-2017
Adrian is a first-year medical student at UWSOM. He graduated from McGill University in Montreal in 2013, where he studied Biology and Anthropology. Adrian believes that the sharing of our narratives is one of the primary ways we connect to one another, and hopes through medicine to always keep that passion for stories and storytelling. In his free time, he enjoys reading, cooking, hiking, camping, fishing, and perusing dog adoption websites. |
Ashley Williams, E-2017
Ashley is a first-year medical student at UWSOM. She graduated from Stanford University in 2014 where she majored in Human Biology with a concentration in Human Behavior and Interpersonal Relations. She believes that stories offer us a powerful tool to see through the eyes of another and that they play a key role in helping people become more open-minded. She is enthusiastic about being part of a group that integrates patient stories with the standard medical school curriculum. Outside of school, Ashley enjoys spending time with loved ones, going on nature walks, convincing people of Spider-Man’s indisputable status as the best superhero, learning about the Myers-Briggs typology system, and drifting off to fantastical worlds through books, television shows, and movies. |
Michelle Parks, E-2017
I am a first-year medical student that’s lived in the Pacific Northwest my whole life and hope to continue to practice here as a physician. I attended UW for my undergraduate degree where I majored in Biochemistry and minored in Bioethics & Humanities. I am very passionate about integrating the humanities into medicine because I truly believe that honoring the humanity of patients, listening to patients’ narratives, and practicing conscious empathy makes us better providers. Outside of school, I spend most of my free time reading, baking, running, hiking, and exploring new destinations with my friends and family. |
Elizabeth Esselman, E-2017
Elizabeth is a first year medical student at UWSOM. She grew up in the Seattle area and plans to practice in the pacific northwest. She graduated from Whitman College with a degree in Art History and Visual Culture Studies with an emphasis in modern painting, photography, and media studies. Elizabeth believes that the humanities provide important tools for studying the practice of medicine and understanding the patient experience. She spends her precious free time traveling, eating cookies, going to museums, and walking her dog Betty. |
